An Ending

I know not many of mine and Billy's friends are on here anymore but I felt I needed to end this blog by telling whoever else was here that our little Billy Boo is no longer with us. At 13 years of age, his mind was going. We felt the most humane thing to do was to put him to sleep. If anyone remembers, he was a rescue dog and we loved and cared for him as if we had had him as a pup. He wasn't the most friendly of dogs, but he was ours. Billy was more like a cat, very independent. We had some great years with him. He will always be remembered with love. Billy reings supreme over our backyard now.

It was thundering last night and the minute it started, I thought of our Boo Boo who, like me, was petrified of thunder. I just wanted to cry.

Rest in peace little one, we will always remember you.

THE LEGEND OF GRAYFRIAR'S BOBBY

Many years ago, there lived a special dog, a Kyleakin Skye Terrier named Bobby, who was the embodiment of devotion and undying love. His best friend and master, John Grey, was a policeman in Edinburgh, Scotland, with whom Bobby would walk his rounds every day. The two were inseparable and familiar figures in Edinburgh.

When John died in 1858, he was buried at the Grayfriar's churchyard. His faithful dog Bobby followed the funeral procession and then lingered at John's gravesite, choosing to remain at his master's side to watch over him. The town's efforts to provide him with a new and permanent home proved to be futile, as Bobby would sit day and night, through all the seasons, guarding his beloved master's grave. A man named James Brown, who was the caretaker for the Grayfriar's cemetery at the time, bent the rules and allowed Bobby to stay. Furthermore, when the weather got bad, he would coax him inside to warm up at the fireplace.

As the years went by, Bobby began to leave his master's side on a daily basis to walk with another policeman, a Sergeant Scott. This Sergeant trained him to respond to the town's cannon that was fired once a day at exactly 1pm, so that the town knew the correct time and more importantly, Bobby would know it was lunchtime. He would then head over to Trail's Coffee House where he was fed daily by John Trail. The coffee house is still there to this day, only now it is known as Grayfriar's Bobby Pub in honor of it's most loyal patron.

In 1867, Bobby's life of freedom was almost ended because of a new law that stated all dogs must have a license. The purpose of this new law was to get rid of all the stray dogs, which were viewed as a pestilence. Bobby's future looked grim until William Chambers of the Scottish Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, who was also the Lord Provost of Edinburgh, stepped in and paid for the license. The Lord Provost granted Bobby a special collar with a permanent, lifetime license, engraved with the words "Grayfriar's Bobby from Lord Provost, 1867 License", so that he could continue his daily rounds and vigilant watch over his friend and master.

Bobby went to join John on January 14, 1872 at the ripe age of 16 and was buried just outside the cemetery where his master lies. In 1873, the Baroness Burdett-Couttes immortalized Bobby with a statue erected outside the gate of the Grayfriar's churchyard where he spent his life. This memorial was designed as a fountain with cups for people and a lower trough for dogs to drink out of, thus uniting dogs and humans. The Dog Aid Society also erected a stone memorial on Bobby's presumed burial site. As the years have passed, several books, articles and even movies have been made about this remarkable dog and his touching story. Bobby's memorials have become a favorite spot, a reminder to visitors from around the world and all walks of life, of the devotion and love of one small dog. There is an inscription on the stone memorial that expresses best why this one little dog is loved and admired so much. It simply reads, "Let his loyalty and devotion be a lesson to us all".

Dear Friends,

Mom has finally decided to do another post...amazing 3 in a week or more. As long as she keeps it up, I'll be happy.

Today, we woke up and it had snowed overnight, nothing serious though but then it turned to rain, then to snow rain, just enough to slush up the roads. I don't like days like these, because I usually don't get to go for a walk, as it is really messy. Here you can see, I'm looking outside...hoping to get out, although they did let me out so that I could pee. The snow tasted COLD!

PLEASANTVILLE, N.J. - November 23, 2008 (WPVI) -- The reunion to happen Monday is an early Thanksgiving present to the family.
A male dachshund found as a stray in Pittsburgh, PA has been confirmed as the missing family pet of Elda Arguello of Pleasantville, NJ. "Tootsie", believed to have been stolen from the family's gated yard, has been missing for nearly five years.
Through confirmation via an implanted microchip on the dog, the Animal Rescue League of Western Pennsylvania will reunite owner and pet in Harrisburg, PA on Monday, November 24, 2008.
This incredible discovery was made late last week when Edna Colon, daughter of Elda Arguello, responded to a letter that the family received from the shelter in Pittsburgh.
All animals brought to the Animal Rescue League are scanned for an implanted microchip when they are brought to the facility. If a microchip exists, the number is checked in a national database and the owner on file is contacted. In this case, the phone number on file did not yield a response. However, the shelter sent a letter to Ms. Arguello and received a return call several days later.
At only six months of age, Tootsie went missing from the family's gated yard nearly five years ago. At the time, the family had another puppy, a Rottweiler named Baby. Sadly, Baby passed away at the age of three after eating contaminated dog food. The family is both shocked and overwhelmed with joy to receive word that their long lost pet is alive, well, and coming home. Several members of the family will meet an Animal Rescue League staff member tomorrow morning in Harrisburg for the reunion.
The Animal Rescue League of Western Pennsylvania places a microchip in every animal that is adopted from the shelter. The shelter also runs a veterinary clinic that can implant the chip into any pet, whether it is a rescued animal or not.
"Given the distance and time involved in this case, the chances were about one in a million that Tootsie would ever be reunited with his original owners. Without a microchip, the reunion would have been completely unequivocally and undeniably impossible. I can't think of a better ambassador for having your pet micro-chipped than Tootsie," said Janice Barnard, the Animal Rescue League of Western PA's Director of Special Programs.
"We appreciate the Animal Rescue League. If not for them and the microchip, we would never have seen Tootsie again. Because (the Animal Rescue League) understands animal lovers, they did all that they could to find us. We are so thankful to (the organization) and their work to get Tootsie back to our family," said eighteen year old Edna Colon.
The family looks forward to giving thanks this Thursday for their long-lost family member's return.

Pictures finally

Mom finally got off her you know what to take some pictures of me and has even found time to help me post them. Here are a few that mom took in the last week. My favorite one is of my full profile laying on the grass - Boo eat your heart out hehe (handsome dog that I am!!).

My dad found a lump in my chest and mom brought me to the vet last week but it was just a fatty lump - me fat? Never! I actually lost 2.5 lbs and the vet couldn't understand why, until my dad spoke up and said that they were no longer feeding me table scraps. That's right friends, you heard it here first, no more table yummies for me sniff sniff. I'm disappointed but I must say that I like my new leaner (and meaner) look - wouldn't you all agree ?? I did manage to get a few steak bits last night and trust me I enjoyed these fully. They were bbcued and so delicious! I know I won't get many of these any more so the ones they do give me, I savour them in ONE gulp haha!

Update on Whiskey

It is with great disappointment (not really) that I must tell you that we lost Whiskey. The same person who was adopting Whiskey's best friend decided to adopt Whiskey too. Mom is very happy that they will stay together, of course, I'm just very happy that I still have MY house to MYself! Mom is disappointed as she was really looking forward to having Whiskey come live with us. I must say she was kinda cute (blush)...mmmm Billy Casanova anyone??? haha!

So mom is looking again. They are still in the process of finding out the cost of bringing a dog from there to here. That alone may stop us from even considering adopting from overseas but we will see. Mom is hoping to hear this week then once we know, she will look there or here.

That is my story and I'm sticking to it! My home is still my kingdom so I'm happy (and yes I'm selfish). Who wants a brother or sister? I don't have time for any doggie stealing my food, my treats OR my water grumble. Did I say I'm getting grumbly in my old age!

Whiskey

Well my friends, it looks like MAYBE I'm going to have a new sister. Mom gets a news letter from SCAD which is a wonderful organization in Thailand helping the streets dogs and cats. She saw this little 3 legged dog named Whiskey and fell in love with her. She has filled out a pre-adoption questionnaire but the person who is in charge of international adoption is traveling at the present time so we are awaiting to hear back from her. As you all know, the animals in Asia aren't as kindly treated as in some other countries which is very sad. Mom would adopt all of them if she could but unfortunately she can't. So we are just waiting to hear to see how much all this will cost to get Whiskey from Bangkok to the East Coast of Canada. They normally bring them to the West Coast but I don't think anyone has ever adopted on the East Coast. It will be interesting to see the logistics involved. Here is a picture of Whiskey, she is 7 months old and from what they have told us she has an amazing personality. She will have to in order to win me over hehe:) It's not a very big picture as it was taking off their website newsletter.

Note to Boo - If we do get her, I'm going to be protective of her so Boo C beware:)

Hectic

Dear friends,

Things have been very hectic at home. My oldest brother graduated from high school. Mom is on the other side of the moon right now. He had his prom last Wednesday night and his graduation is tonight. So there has been a lot of driving back and forth as he lives with his father. But mom said it was worth it. Needless to say they don't ask me if it's worth it, as I'm the one sitting home alone waiting for her and dad to come back grumble. I can't complain too much because when they do come home, they give me treats and bring me for long walks. But for mom, she has waited a long time for this day to come. I'm sure I and this whole province will hear her cheering our boy on tonight! Way to go p-nut...we are all proud of you!

Now as mom says, it's the next stage in his life called "responsibility". This should be interesting. It's nice that we don't have to be responsible, it sounds like a very complicated thing to do. I know that mom and dad and youngest brother are responsible for me. I'm just glad that I don't have to be responsible for them. Too much for my little head to take hehe.

Not much else to report my friends, but I know that mom would have not been impressed if I hadn't put this on my blog about my big brother. But then again, she's typing for me, so I guess she would have put this on anyway. Moms!!!

I hope all is well with you all. I have some pictures to post, so if all this craziness can come to a roaring halt, I might be able to convince mom to help me download some from the camera.

Long Weekend

Well my dear friends, this was an extra long weekend for us as yesterday was Victoria Day. Since Canada is a Commonwealth Country (as is Australia), we celebrate the Queen's Birthday. Mom was glad she had a three-day weekend.

Speaking of glad, I was not so happy! My parents with one teenager in tow decided to go spend the weekend in Halifax (which is in Nova Scotia). I have never been, nor does it seem I will be going any time soon. Mom's cousin lives there and told her to bring me...they have a dog which is a mix of wheaton terrier and poodle. Mom decided to leave me behind with a friend of hers from work. Well I wasn't impressed but then again, I didn't think I was going to have fun which I did!

Little does she know that I was fed table scrap (yummy) and my friend's husband and I became best friends! If I wasn't spoiled before this weekend, I was after! I was well fed, well rubbed and scratched and taken for walks and I slept like a baby. They have a little fellow named Piper which is a Pomeranian. He and I got along swell. He's a complete fuzz ball and I think was a little jealous at the nice treatment I was receiving, but then again, I was a guest in their home so how else would I have been treated hehe!

Here are some pics of Peggy's Cove...mom forgot her camera so she found these online. I hope to go next time around, although I won't hold my breath. I can see that I'm now second best in our household after Mr. You Know Who!

I am sending out a little message cheer and hope that you are all doing well. I know mom's not helping me blog as much because she is so busy with work, house and our new dad. But she does think of you often and found a little time to post this with me.

Everything here is fine, although mom mentioned something to me about my eyesight not being as clear as it used to be. She said my eyes looked cloudy, but that doesn't affect my nose does it? I can still smell food which thankfully is a GOOD thing. Not to mention treats...YUMMMM.

Confusion

Some of you are a little confused by "the new pet" that I have in my house which I mentioned in my last post. By new pet, I meant my new dad! He helped me write the post this is why some of you are confused because MOM didn't help me write it this time. And YES he is a great scratcher and gives me the best belly rubs...sorry mom.

Recon Post 1 is my #1 position on the couch...well it was on the old couch, they are having a terrible time keeping me off the new couch which is way more comfy than the old one. I don't listen very well to the "N" - no word grumble...

I hope I've clarified things! If you see a post that is not written like mom would have written it, it means that my new dad is helping me write and he writes a whole lot differently than mom does:)

New Smells

Hi all, long time no sniff...
As you may have heard Mom brought home a new pet and I'm not impressed! First, he's way to big. By the time he eats there won't be any scraps for me. Second, he smells too warm. He's obviously not from around here, blood's too thin. On the up side he's a good scratcher, I'm not sure what K-9 means but it seems they taught him all he knows about scratching. Mom also got a new sofa, and we all know what that means! The trouble started the day after they delivered it, Mom and "scratcher" were away for the daylight and I was lounged up in "recon post 1" when they came home. So there I am all comfy cozy, working on a little butt treasure. I must have sat on a kibble and didn't notice. All I know is now I had grooming and a treat, how speacial is that? Well right after the sniff and lick session at the door I head back to "recon post 1" and I get the "N" word, that's right "NO"!!! I'm like, no what? Then "Scratcher" comes over and pushes me to the floor. I KNOW!!!! Who the hell does he think he is? I had half a mind to bite him. And I would have too, I'm not scared of him... WHAT?, I'm not! So I figure he lost his mind and wouldn't dare repeat such a foolish mistake (I mean who wants the business end of a Billy fang, right?) and I head back up to "Recon Post 1" and again with the "NO" and the floor. So now I'm just pissed. I wasn't letting this slide, no way! Well, one thought led to another and ... I'm not sure what a Nike is but scratcher doesn't like his wet. That'll teach him.

If you want someone who never criticizes what you do, doesn't care if you are pretty or ugly, fat or thin, young or old, who acts as if every word you say is especially worthy of listening to, and loves you unconditionally, perpetually .....then adopt a dog.

BUT, on the other hand, if you want someone who will never come when you call, ignores you totally when you come home, leaves hair all over the place, walks all over you, runs around all night and only comes home to eat and sleep, and acts as if your entire existence is solely to ensure his happiness....then adopt a cat!

Now be honest, you thought I was gonna say... marry a man, didn't you?

I know that we are all praying for Baby's safe return. We must keep the faith that someone will do the right thing and will bring Baby home. We have dog lovers all over this planet and I hope that someone will either see her or see the posters and she will find her way home.

We need to keep hope alive for Baby's family as well as all the other families out there with missing pets.

Please visit Baby and Boy's blog and give encouragement to their family:) These are the times that we need to come together and do what little we can do, even when we are far away, to help.

Good morning

Good morning to all my wonderful and amazing friends,

As you can see we haven't been blogging. Mom's mother passed away last Wednesday so she has been busy with everything that needs to be done with all of that. It is nice to see her new man being so supportive of her and of course I am too. I give her lots of licks and hugs too! She is doing okay considering. My brothers have been finding it tough but they are strong like their mom, they will be okay.

I also received some nice gifts (you will know in another post)! Mom's camera is not working and she needs to get another one but once things return to normal for my mom, we will post the gifts that we received. How nice is that? It made my whole entire year so far:)

We will post more in the next few weeks. We hope you are all doing well, we think of you always.

Happy New Year

First, I would like to say that mom isn't mad at me. Her cheek is healing nicely for which I am truly grateful. So all is well at home. My needles are due in January so she is going to speak to the vet about what happened and will ask him to check my eyesight, although personally, I see quite well. I can still find my food, my bed and I go up and down the stairs no problem. But she wants to make sure all is well so that is good. Thank you all for your comments and mom appreciates your advice.

Second, I would like to thank you all for your good wishes on my Adoption Day. It's hard to believe that it's been 3 years so far and that I'm officially 9 years old today. It's been a wonderful three years BUT the best part of these three years was when mom joined this wonderful community. We are both grateful for your wonderful friendships and your warm love. You are simply the BEST of the BEST. We are truly lucky to be blessed with such wonderful, loving, giving and caring friends. Thank you all! You are more appreciated than you will ever know.

Third, Mom and I and our little family would like to wish you all a very wonderful New Year and we hope that 2008 brings you peace, health, love, happiness and prosperity. You are all such amazing friends.

We hope that you know how much we love you very dearly. You are all one of a kind:)

Shocked

Well mom got a scare last night by me. I was on my pillow minding my own business when mom gets down on her knees and comes over to see me. She was kissing me on my head and by my ear when I turned and bit her on the cheek...yes you heard me, I bit her. I don't know what I was thinking but I felt bad after doing it. She was bleeding and she know has three marks on her cheek where my teeth punctured her. Poor mom was crying and didn't know what had happened. I don't know if it's the extra people in the house or if I'm just getting old and more grumpier. But it shocked me as much as it shocked her. She didn't pay too much attention to me this morning but then again I don't blame her one bit. I heard her talking to her new man saying that she didn't want me to bite anyone else and is worried about this. I did bite her new man on the nose a couple of weeks ago, but he admits he came close to my face when I was trying to sleep and it was his fault. But I did want to show him who was the "man" of the house anyway.

So there you have it friends, I'm not as nice as I pretend to be. Mom is pretty upset with me and she has every right. I don't know what happened and I hope it doesn't happen again.

How is this for news after Christmas. I guess I'm lucky that I didn't get put out of the house so that is good news for now.

I guess I wanted to share this with you all to see if any of you might have bit your caregivers. Mom's new man says that my teeth are older and that I probably bit as hard as I could bite. He knows quite a bit about dogs as he was a canine handler in the Air Force.

Seeking your help

Dear Friends,

I know that I can always count on you for your support. This is another story about animal cruelty. All you have to do is read the story and if you would be so kind as to sign the petition and/or write a letter to the Judge, it would be greatly appreciated. We have done both, as this monster should never be allowed to have any of his animals back much less own another pet! It's sickening that it might even be considered.

Marc-Andre Laporte, 59, was found guilty of two counts of animal cruelty at the St. Jerome courthouse in Montreal this week, following the seizure of 97 fox terriers in November 2005 from his Blainville puppy mill. Judge Jean Sirois rejected Laporte's argument that he loved his dogs too much. When police raided the property, they found dogs matted in feces feeding on dogs' carcasses and stronger dogs preying on weaker ones. Almost 40 animals had to be destroyed. Laporte's home was later condemned and demolished in March 2006. The surviving dogs were cared for by the SPCA and later, with the help of devoted fox terrier lovers, found wonderful foster homes where they have been living for the past 2 years. Despite his horrendous treatment of these innocent creatures, Laporte, who wil be sentenced on February 22, 2008, is facing only six months of jail time and up to $4,000 in fines. At the same hearing, the judge is to decide if Laporte is to get any of his fox terriers back! WE CANNOT ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN.

The surviving mill fox terriers took months to recover physically, medically and emotionally from their ordeal. To even consider removing ONE wire from the safety and care of their loving foster families back to Laporte is OUTRAGEOUS! Today we are launching a two-fold campaign to prevent Laporte from getting his dog/s back. We know we can count on you to take action and spread the word:

Dear Sir:

I am part of a wonderful community called Dogs with Blogs. I maintain a blog for my dog that I adopted at the SPCA. His owners gave him up after 6 years and I was lucky enough to be at the right place to adopt this little shitzu. This was New Year’s Eve 2004 and 3 years later, what a delight it has been to have him in our family. He is a part of our family and goes everywhere with us. Our Dogs with Blogs community is an amazing family full of love and genuine interest for their pets as well as others that we meet.

After reading about this Marc-André Laporte and the deplorable conditions found at his property, I cannot believe that consideration to give him back any of the dogs that were in his so called care is even thought of. You rejected his plea saying that he loved his dogs too much. Anyone who loves their pets ‘too much’, do not put them in harm’s way. This monster should never be allowed to own another animal. If it happens that he is allowed to have any of his dogs back, then there is truly something wrong with our judicial system. There are serious holes in it now, and to allow this to happen, would be another black mark on our already very damaged system. It would be an outrage and I am one Canadian who will speak for those little ones who cannot. I know I am not the only one who feels this way.

I do hope that no consideration is given to Laporte to have any dogs back in his care. He has proven that he does not care for his animals, cannot provide love for them and is an unfit guardian for these animals. If it was a child, would you give him the right again to have care of the child? I think not, but then again, our system is flawed and perhaps the child would be given back to him. I don’t know, we need serious changes in our laws. There are too many citizens getting away with murder, neglect and abuse.

To my dear, wonderful and caring friends,

Thank you for not giving up on me and especially mom! These last few months have been a whirlwind but things are so good right now. I have a wonderful dad who plays with me and we rough house which I really like. He is a very special person and guess what? His daughter plays with me too which is great. I try to bite her but she's quick and then she comes back for more. So yes, life is great, I am getting plenty of treats and plenty of attention ... ahem mom, are you listening to me? I still think mom's feet haven't touched the ground yet but that's okay, as long as she is happy, I'm happy.

Somehow my brother is the one who seems to be out of sorts lately. I am sure he will get into the groove of things, I suppose it's not easy for him to have a new "sister" around and he complains that now his friends come over to see "her" and not him anymore. I must say from a dog's perspective, she is cute and very nice. How could I not like her? She gives me attention...again, mom I hope you are reading this.

My mom is hoping to get some wedding pictures off of the CD this weekend so if she is brave enough, she may post one on the site.

We are still not up to blogging full time as the house is full of "stuff" namely "his stuff" and mom feels overwhelmed because the house isn't very big and we aren't sure where we are going to put everything. With Christmas fast approaching, they would like to have it all sorted by that time.

So that's the story all of you out there in doggie and hamster lands:)

Don't forget something very important...we LOVE you ALL and are so grateful for your kind and wonderful friendships. These are very important to us. We will start visiting more as I know mom visits from work and reads the blogs but can't respond through work because they are checking sites of where people visit.

If there is anything important we need to know, please keep us informed until we are back full time. We don't want to miss something that we should know about.

To all my dear, special and wonderful friends:)

Thank you for not giving up on us. Mom is still floating somewhere on Cloud 99, I personally think she's in la la land. But who am I to say anything. She is happy and this guy is sooooooooo in love with mom and of course she is too so needless to say I think magic is going to happen soon. But time will tell, I am the one who is grounded, four paws terra firma, so I have to take charge of the situation and tell mom like it is...either we blog OR...I'll save the OR for later once I figure out just exactly what OR will be...

I swear that phone is glued to her ear at night and it's not only 1 to 2 hours but more like 4 to 6 hours groan. I just lay beside her and hope that she'll give me a belly rub, I keep asking for one but she's so out there, she is clueless grrrrr!

I am planning on having a one on one with her tomorrow at some point, if she can get OFF the phone...he calls, she calls, he calls, he calls, she calls, she calls, the phone bill is going to be quite interesting this next month...she may actually come back to reality when she sees the charges on her home phone and cell phone. The main thing is that she is happy and she hasn't stopped smiling in close to three (or is 4 or 5??) weeks so whatever the magic is, I'm feeling it too!!!

My dear friends,

Mom, as you all know, has been on Cloud 99 for a few weeks now. She can't blog because she spends 5 hours on the phone EVERY night with her main squeeze. He's coming up in September for 10 days so she is of course ecstatic and then he's bringing her down there (he's in the U.S.). I'm not sure if I'm going to get any blogging done between now and then because we are going on vacation and we will be in and out a lot. Mom keeps telling me she has pictures and stuff to put on here, but then nothing happens. I need to hide the phone I think from her once and for all! But you know what they say, when mom is happy everybody is happy and it's certainly true. Mom looks like she's walking on air and her feet aren't touching any ground that I can see. What a transformation in her, it's magic:)

I just wanted to give you an update and I can handle not blogging for a bit because this is the happiest I've seen her in YEARS! We all think of you and love you all very much. We will be back as soon as she can have her feet firmly planted on the ground again:)

New Beginnings

Dear Friends,

It has been awhile since mom has posted and it's because there have been a lot of things going on in these last few weeks. Things are so much better and my mom is ecstatically happy again! In fact she keeps reminding me that she's on Cloud 99...I have no idea why, but it could be because a certain person has entered her life and turned it completely upside down! She never knew that she could find happiness like this and she certainly is a different person, in fact I think some alien has taken over her body and she has disappeared, but it's all good and she has been on Cloud 99 for awhile now so I am very happy for mom, because she deserves to be happy. And this guy is really really really good to her. So now that mom is back to normal, we will be blogging again because as Boo so eloquently put it, blogging is good for messy head....well messy head no more Mr. Casanova...actually messy head on a different level now haha! Mom is floating on air right now...okay enough of this for now!

We have missed all of you and we thought of you often of course these last few weeks. Thank you all for your kind notes and messages, it will be good to get back at what we do best (pardon me mom? I do best) and that is blogging. So if mom can tear herself away from her man long enough to blog, we should be able to do a few postings tomorrow.

Wow, I was surprised to get something all the way from Down Under from Opy, Charlie, Brooke and Greg:) How nice is that? I didn't know where to start...

They sent a picture of Opy and Charlie all

even has a little paw print, how nice is that?

Opy and Charlie also included some amazing
photography pictures that their dad took, these
pictures do not do them justice at all. Mom's
new batteries were running out (I think she put
the old ones back in myself!)

My friend Putter sent me some gifts, how nice is that? Mom went a little overboard on the pictures and I told her we couldn't possibly put them all on because Blogger would probably cut us off!

These precious animals came in and out of mom's life and fostered her love for dogs and animals, no matter how small or big. She would always be bringing injured birds home to take care of them or cats or strays. Her papa, who loved animals just as much as she did, would help her nurse them back to health if they could.

I just knew the moment my mom walked into the animal shelter that she would be the one to take care of me.

Mom received a big box at work today and she brought it home in the car. The box was HUGE, well huge compared to me. Mom knew what it was and was pretty excited to open the box. She enlisted the help of my hooman brother...

Yard Work

Mom wanted to make sure you knew that she wasn't ignoring you by doing nothing these past two weekends. This weekend she patched up the front yard...remember the first picture from a few posts ago?

agree with you...where is my dirt? Does mom
not realize that I like to roll around in the
dirt? Now what am I going to do??

She also did the front of the house by the
windows putting in plants and mulch. She

Life is a Highway...

A couple of weekends ago, mom went to get my hooman brother in Sussex which is about a 40-minute drive from where we live and she took pictures of our landscape so you all could see. We have a lot farm land here especially dairy farms and also we have water around us which is good for our fish industry. Our forestry industry is also vital to New Brunswick, as you can see we are surrounded by trees. Mom said the pictures didn't turn out that great because they were taken from the car. She hopes next time to stop on the highway and take pictures of some eagles' nests which they built in the power towers.

Finally mom has a few minutes to post the pictures from last Saturday when I went to the groomers. It's such a beautiful weekend here that it's too nice to stay indoors. **Jackson was wondering why he was there in the first place...I should explain that here in New Brunswick our main industries are forestry and fishery. We are surrounded by trees. And of course as you well know as we build more and more we encroach on the wildlife territory which surrounds us and they find their way in the cities more times than not. The door of the building was probably left open and the poor deer probably found its way in there and finding that there was no place to go, he saw the trees from the window and crashed through the glass probably without realizing that the glass was there.**

Hello to all my furry friends...

It was really a busy weekend and mom hasn't had time to help me post anything or visit any blogs yet to catch up. I went to the groomer's on Saturday morning and yes I do have pictures if mom can stay still long enough to put these on here. Since it was soooo nice here on Saturday (it was 31C) mom got my hooman brother to do some yard work for her. Why on earth she would to this when it was so hot is beyond my comprehension. I was all nicely groomed so I was enjoying my time INside the house in the afternoon where it was a bit cooler than outside. But she needed to fill in some areas where she had removed trees and shrubs but a lot more work has to be done than she originally thought. Then she had friends over for supper and yesterday, she drove my other hooman brother home to Moncton (about 90 minutes away). I heard they went out for yummy fried clams and scallops (and no I wasn't invited grumble). Then she ended up driving someone back and last night was right back to routine and getting ready for the week.

Tonight was busy again as mom had to go out. My other hooman brother only got home around 8 pm so needless to say I was pretty much alone the whole day and evening.

BUT mom told me that since I had been so good today that she would help me tomorrow night to put the pictures up and get caught up on everyone's blogs yipppeee!

So I hope you all had a good Monday and you have a great day tomorrow. I can't wait for tomorrow night so we can have a look at what we've missed. With our summer now here and mom has a lot of things on the go, I think we are going to be doing a lot of catching up!

In Memory of my Best Friend Taffy

My friend Taffy has gone over the Rainbow Bridge. She was my best friend for almost 3 years. She came to live with my mom's friend when the people who had her didn't want her anymore. Taffy was a little shih tzu and was the runt of the litter. She didn't grow very big but her love for everyone was bigger than she was. She would always greet you with a funny hop and her paw would lift up as if to tag you and her little tongue was always hanging to the side of her mouth. Taffy was very special to me and mom and my hooman brothers who knew her for 8 years. There will never be another one to replace her. Mom's friend got Callie that I posted about a little while ago I think in anticipation of this sad day. Taffy lived a very long and loving life at 13 years of age. She will be truly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Look over us as well little Tafferoonie:) We loved you so much and you will be truly missed.

What Dogs with Blogs means to me

Dear friends,

I thought I would write about what DWB means to me. Although I haven't been
here long, I thought this would be a good time to reflect on these last 5
months.

For me, this started as nothing more than one post and then that would have
been it. But from that one post, I found it fun and inspiring to tell
Billy's rescue story in hopes that many more out there would adopt a rescue
dog as there are so many who are in need of a good home and love. Through
this one initial post, Billy has met many friends who have indirectly become
mine as well.

People think I am crazy to blog for my dog, but they have no idea what
friendships have been freely given due to mutual respect and trust. This for
me is my second home, my home away from home. All of you who visit and
continue to do so touch my heart and life in so many ways. We are quite a
little, but growing community of great dogs, hamsters and people. I would
never want to trade these past 5 months for anything as you have all been so
willing to share a part of your life with us.

With Fu Fu's passing and so many others who have gone ahead of little bear
and those who are sick (both furries and human), we all rally together to
give support and love when it is needed and even when it isn't. Where else
would you find such an amazing group of people?

I can't say enough about DWB, I'm grateful to Greg, Brooke, Charlie and Opy
for starting this otherwise I would have never met so many truly inspiring,
loving, caring and wonderful dogs, hamsters and people.

Billy is the reason I blog, but even moreso YOU are the reason I blog, to
hear your comments, to make me laugh and yes, even make me sad and cry.
Please do not ever stop being who you are and believe you can make a
difference to one dog's life and one person's life by being kind, generous
and loving towards each other.

I miss little bear terribly and I know you all do as well. This week is one
of those weeks we never hope to go through. But loving a friend, also brings
extreme sadness when it is time to let go and say goodbye. Unfortunately,
this is the circle of life. This is when we lean on each other for support
and you are so wonderful in continuing to make us smile and we know that
tomorrow will be a better day.

I just wanted to share my thoughts with you and to thank you all for
welcoming Billy (and me) into this incredible community and into your homes
and to thank you for your most precious gift of all, your friendship.

Stay well my furry friends. We love you all so much.

How cold is it?

Apparently mom thinks I don't have enough fur to keep me warm so she chooses to swaddle me in my blanket, why she would do this I am clueless. I know she loves me dearly and she doesn't want me to be cold but let's get real here, it's not likely I'll freeze anytime soon. The things we have to put up with...don't you all agree?

Fu Fu Bear May You Rest In Peace.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

A Scary 30 Minutes

Well tonight started off uneventfully. We had supper, my hoomans were having bbcued pork chops, I was left with hamburg, although mom gave me a treat of yogurt and apples which I truly enjoyed! I hope I have more of that.

Mom went out tonight and my hooman brother had a couple of friends over and before mom left she told my brother to stop studying and to go out and have fun with his friends...he is 14. This was around 8 pm. I of course was left in the house since my mom went for a motorcycle ride (she doesn't have her license yet but hopes to this summer) with Gizzi's dad. She came back around 9 and no sign of my brother. She didn't have her keys so she was locked out of the house. I couldn't understand why she wasn't letting me out but she kept looking at me through the window in the door. I think she half expected me to reach up and unlock the door! I can do amazing things, but I'm not that amazing!! Then she left.

I found out afterwards that she went over to our neighbour's house (the one with the nicely fertilized GREEN lawn) to use their phone. She called a friend of my brother's but my brother wasn't at his house. She called two other places but they never picked up their phone. Needless to say it was getting dark and mom was getting more and more worried. My hooman brother is very responsible and he tells her where he is at all times or leaves a note. One of my brother's friend's mom called back at our neighbour's house to tell her that she would go in her car and try the two places where mom had called but there was no one answering the phone. Mom was very grateful of course and at this point near tears. She went outside and waited and I could hear her outside because the windows were open.

I then heard a car come by and lo and behold my hooman brother got out. The other mom had found him at one of the houses my mom tried but no one answered. Why would they not answer their phone? Mom came into the house and was pretty upset because you hear so many stories about kids being abducted that you can never be too careful.

So all is well again in the world as mom is very happy my brother is home and to show her gratitude, she gave me an extra treat tonight. We are all together and mom is very happy. I love happy endings!

Spring/Summer is Here (we think)

It was so nice after supper that we went for a stroll in the yard (before going for my full walk). Mom wanted to do an inspection of the yard and took some pictures of our property and the start of the green grass. We even found a blossom starting on the tree in the backyard, a sure sign that the warmer weather is coming, even though it's late!!!

Mom says keeping up a house is a lot of work inside and out! I'm glad she's doing it all...I told her I could help with helping get the grass green!!

My Daily Walk

Go straight down the road and look at everything around me...

Sniff around to see who has dared come before me...

Once I've determined that I don't have to worry...

I go on to one of my many pee spots...sniffing first!

Then I have a good one and hope no one sees me...

Now I'm ready to continue and enjoy my walk...

Here is what I'm about to eat...hamburg (a little burnt mom!), peas and some hard food mixed in.

Please forgive my terrible manners, once I started digging in, I couldn't stop! I put a few peas and hard food aside (for a little snack later)...

After I was done, I went back for more, but there was nothing left...and those peas and hard food for later? Well I couldn't keep them for later and ate them...

Once I am all done, I clean up! And I'm good for a snooze after all that work!

Dedication to Boo...

Boo C!

Although I don't want to say this too loudly, Firefox seems to be working so far and no freezing which is a bonus! Maybe it was IE after all???

I would like to dedicate this little blog to Boo who is the master of the internet. Since mom is clueless as to what she is doing, let me tell you a little secret that Boo told her. He suggested that if she wanted to change the template of my blog to make sure to save it first and also do a "test" blog which we've created. Now had he not told mom this, we would have lost everything a minute ago, yes a minute ago! I can't go into the horrible details because I'm just too upset, but just to say that my blog would have been no longer. Mom is really, how can I say this gently, stupid (there is no other word for it) when it comes to blogging stuff. Even I would have known to do a test blog! But does she listen to me? NOOOO, she listens to Boo though! What's up with that? I don't know anything?

So even though Boo has all the females out there and we are left to pine with what might have been, I still dedicate this post to Boo, otherwise, at this time, I would be blogging on no blog as it would have been gone, poof, disappearing for good in this great big sea of who knows where...

Really Boo, you do have your work cut out for you here. Mom can't even put the little icon on the address bar...because as you see, everything on the test blog just disappeared. Mom was quite nervous opening our blog up thinking nothing would be there, but does she listen to me when I told her we were in TEST mode in ANOTHER window???!!!! It is really hopeless my furry friends...mom is totally and completely useless on this.

But Boo, I (yes mom too!) salute you for your good advice.

Down to One Thing

My camera is fixed, turns out all mom had to do was to take out the memory card and put it back in (just as I told her but she wouldn't listen to me...what can I say Hoomans!!!)...

The computer is being a pain. Mom is going to help me install firefox at Boo's suggestion and see if that works. I don't have anything to lose at this point. I've managed to do a couple of things tonight including putting this post up with any freezing so far. I don't want to tempt fate here.

So on that little update, I hope to get more videos up and more pictures of our nice sunny weather here! It's been really nice so far and NO rain since last Friday yipee!

I'm going to bed as it is late here and mom needs her beauty sleep...she made me say that!

Three Items to Share!

Firstly, the BIG news is that we are on our third day of sun so far and it's warm too... anywhere from 12 to 15C...so a big change from the snowy surprise and the torrents of rain we've had. Everyone is in a much better mood and they are out and about enjoying the great weather.

Secondly, I would post pictures of the sunny weather to show you, but the camera isn't working. Mom thought it was the batteries but we've replaced them and we can't get the zoom lens to go back in and the green light flashes for a split second and then nothing. We are going to have this checked out.

Thirdly, the computer is freezing so we (mom!) are getting frustrated because we start writing something and then it freezes partway through and then we have to x out of the program and then reopen Explorer quite annoying.

So this is our story and we are sticking to it! Mom says it's too nice a day to stay inside and we are going to head out and do some exploring so I can't wait. The hoomans are going to have some lunch, I hope to have a little something out of it too, and then mom and I are going to take off in the car and go for a walk at one of the parks.

Hope you guys are having good weather too and continued good weather to the ones fortunate enough to have had it all along (I won't name names here)...

Well at least I got this far in this post and no freezing yet!!

Two videos!

Good evening all! We are going to try this post and see if anything freezes (let's hope not). Mom tried to do a system restore to the second day we had this computer and it wouldn't let us...not sure why. So we'll see if we can restore to another point later. Not sure if this will stop the freezing but we'll see.

We are trying this post and hope that we don't lose everything mid way through it. Mom took two videos of me. You may need earplugs because mom said my barking can be a little bit too much at times. It just makes me hoarse and then I have to drink lots of water.

This first video are friends of my hooman brother leaving and I'm expressing my disappointment at their departure (no doubt)...

This second one, there are people going by on the street and I'm warning them that I'm a vicious guard dog (think they would believe it?)...

Our weather here has been so lousy and miserable, from snow to now torrents of rain, at least until Thursday and no sun in sight. When I saw Verdi so comfy and warm in the sun, I just got a warm feeling all over! I hope it does the same for all my friends who are experiencing the same yucky weather as I am:)

For those less fortunate of us not to be living in the great land Down Under, here are a few definitions that mom helped me look up:

Bunyip - legendary monster: in Aboriginal legend, a monster said to inhabit swamps and water holes of the Australian interior (glad they do not exist...one less thing to worry about)

Dropbear - Conversation:

"Keep your eyes on the forest canopy as you wander round; you never know what's just above your head...of course, you've got to be careful of drop bears: they're everywhere at this time of year."
"Drop bears? What on earth are they?"
''Well, they're these bears that are distantly related to koalas, and they hang around in trees, sleeping most of the time."
'What's so dangerous about that?"
"Well, when a drop bear gets hungry, he sits there, up in the tree, looking round for something to eat. And he sits and sits and sits, and waits until some unsuspecting animal wanders under his tree and then - wallop! - he drops down on top of 'em. So if you happen to be walking under a tree when a drop bear's looking for a meal, you're in for a nasty shock. But the worst thing is the claws. Because they have to climb trees, they've got long, sharp claws for gripping bark, and if a drop bear lands on you, the chances are he's going to rip huge gashes down your back. Billabong - a pool or water hole formed by a side-channel of a river during the wet season (of the three definitions, this last one is the nicest one of all!)

Personally, I would need a billabong after fending off bunyips and dropbears! I may have to rethink going surfing with Asta...sounds like scrary territory in Ozzie land...

Spring has Sprung??

Look at what we woke up to this morning...sleeping all nice and comfy to looking outside and seeing this! Yes dear Boo, it is still winter here unfortunately when it's suppose to be spring...we are after all half way into April. This is why I still have to wear THE sweater!!

Another Sweater

My mom's friend was nice enough to buy me a brand new sweater. Having had nightmares about THE "blue" sweater and the small neck opening, I was starting to break out in hives when I saw this multi-coloured sweater. Tonight was the night that mom decided to try it out. I thought to myself "why me again"... I ducked as she was coming in with the sweater, so she didn't manage to put it on me. She came at me again and I ducked and flipped over on my back, thinking she would give up. Mom will perservere if it's to torture me, so finally she caught me, really friends there was no escaping. After all the fuss, the sweater fit just peachy. It's not like my other one where it has those bands at the back that go around your behind. This one ended on the underside halfway down my belly so I was a very happy camper. I couldn't wait to go for my walk.

The sweater was a good surprise much better than the booties my mom's friend bought for my half brother Gizzi and somehow I don't think he'll be wearing these anytime soon...

Famous mystery photo, either mom and I were having a real heart to heart chat or we were looking for my squeaky dog...but to be honest, we both can't remember what we were doing in this picture...looking at the floor? the wall? the side of the chair? the books in the basket? ...who knows for sure...

For Fu Fu - Dropbears

Fu Fu asked me what a dropbear was the other day...let me explain little one.

About 9 years ago, mom met a friend from Australia. She was all intrigued about the koalas (she loves them!), the kangaroos and anything else of the animal species down in Australia. One night they were talking on the phone and he told her that if she ever came to visit, she would have to be careful of the dropbears. My mom asked him what a dropbear was.

He explained that if you walked in the bush and you weren't aware of your surroundings that these dropbears hid in the trees until someone came by and then they would just jump out of the trees onto the heads of people and would tear at their faces with their claws. Mom was horrified of course because she pictured these cute little dropbears as little koalas. So he said that it wasn't safe to walk in the bush when there were dropbears in the trees. Mom asked him how he walked in the bush because he was out there a lot. He said sometimes he had to wear protective gear on his head because he never knew when they were going to just drop down from the trees and attack.

Mom kept asking questions about these dropbears until he couldn't take it anymore and he started laughing. Mom couldn't figure out why he was laughing and he couldn't tell her because he was literally on the ground laughing. Mom kept hearing him laugh and kept asking him what was so funny and finally after he stopped long enough to speak to her, he told her that they didn't exist. Mom was furious of course but then started laughing herself because she actually believed that they did exist and imagined these little gentle dropbears. The joke was definitely on mom!!

So there you have it little Fu Fu, the story of dropbears.

Dear Friends,

Mom finally put some good batteries in her camera and helped me download the pictures that have been sitting there forever. There is an assortment, hope I keep you entertained. Mom downloaded some videos too but they aren't "live" yet on youtube so maybe by tomorrow, I can post these.

We found a picture of my "wart" on my back, not attractive, but you can see what it looks like although the picture is blurred a bit. In the other pictures, I'm just flying by the seat of my pants!

Mom was reading more about the pet recall and we found out that little Pebbles didn't make it. We are pretty saddened to hear this.

We agree with Fei's comment that I will no longer be eating out of these pouches or anything else made my the manufacturer, you just don't know what you are eating in your food anymore. Mom will continue to feed me chicken, hamburg and some steak and is going to add some potatoes and carrots to my diet mixed in with this and a few bananas and apples.

Here is a picture of little Pebbles, a 7-year-old Yorkshire Terrier who is battling kidney failure after eating dog food that was later recalled. How sad is this? We are quite upset.

I think today, March 22nd, should be dedicated to all the humans who have reached out and touched our lives and so many others in such a positive way.
